For someone like me who grew up with Starlings and Sparrows in the North of England, it's quite amazing to be making friends with a whole host of parrots of various shapes, sizes and colours right here on our verandah. At 5am in the morning a mob of rainbow lorikeets start screeching for their brekkie. This one got up close and fairly personal.
When we get a lot of rain, there is a colony of Black Cockatoos who swoop down from the nearby forest to feed on the Banksias in the garden, and squawk their primordial squawks. I was quite happy to catch this one with a telephoto on a film camera.
This guy is our favourite though, the King Parrot who chooses to come and visit for a little snackette every now and then.
